National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham
This purpose built centre is part of the Sport England National Centres Network, operated by Sport England in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, it is the base for elite-level canoeing and rowing. The eight-lane, 2000m Regatta Lake is extensively used for national multi-lane competition and is approved by the International Rowing Governing Body, FISA. Easy access to the River Trent provides five miles of additional training water. The centre has hosted a variety of elite-level rowing events, since the course opened in 1972, including Senior and Junior World Championships, European Junior Championships and (annually) all major domestic National Rowing Championships.
The course lies about six kilometres from the Centre of Nottingham, in the Borough of Rushcliffe, surrounded by the districts of Gedgling, Newark and Sherwood and within ten kilometres of the university accommodation. The Centre has extensive changing and catering provision, twenty-four hour security (including CCTV) a modern gymnasium and warm-up facilities, complete with ergometers, on site.
